Global sights

“The Awards made me focus on scaling up globally and realising the appetite the world has for my products!” With sales up 132%, a new designer hired, the first exports to the US, a national distributor in Australia and a new deal with Fannin, an Irish medical device distributor who will roll Theya Healthcare out nationally before looking to the UK, this step seems well on the way.

As Brexit approaches, Great Britain is high on the to-do list, so Ciara invested her Award money in developing the UK market, where House of Fraser is placing its products in its main department stores after healthy online sales. “I was so determined to win I had already factored the prize money into our budget!” Ciara confesses. What she hadn’t necessarily factored were the contacts and deep friendships she made throughout the Awards week.

“Having other entrepreneurs to bounce ideas off is vital, there’s barely a week that goes by where we aren’t all in contact.” For advice on Series A funding, which her company is currently raising, Ciara turned to fellow laureate Candice Pascoal. She also met a key strategic partner on Awards night, who looks set to be the new manufacturer of Theya Healthcare’s life-enhancing post-surgery lingerie.
