Menopause is an underserved and misunderstood phase of women’s health
While menopause affects every woman, many face it alone, coping with years of symptoms that disrupt sleep, work, sexual and emotional well-being. Stigma, misinformation and limited medical support also leave millions of women feeling dismissed or lost.
As of 2025, nearly 1 billion women worldwide are in menopause or perimenopause. Eighty-seven percent of them experience symptoms — including hot flashes, anxiety and insomnia, with symptoms lasting for an average of seven years. The menopause phase is also a key opportunity to prevent long-term health conditions that can develop with age, such as osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease.
Despite affecting half of the population in their lifetimes, menopause remains overlooked and underserved. However, that is beginning to change, with the booming femtech sector reflecting a shift in public sentiment and investor appetite when it comes to women’s health. In France, Hahyeon Park’s Omena and its digital menopause care mobile application are leading the way.
Originally from South Korea, Hahyeon became interested in women’s health at Ewha Womans University before going on to pursue a master’s in entrepreneurship at world-class business school HEC Paris, where she met her two co-founders. Part of their degree curriculum was to co-create a startup and the trio knew immediately that they wanted to create a healthcare solution that made the world a better place. They soon narrowed this down to a specific focus on improving quality of life for women. Hahyeon suggested they consider menopause, but none of the three mid-20s women knew much about it. However, after asking around older friends and acquaintances, they heard the same story again and again — unpleasant, often debilitating symptoms, and no plan to tackle them beyond waiting for menopause to end — and realized this was an issue they could no longer ignore.
“I couldn't accept the fact that so little was being done about this enormous problem and that so many women were suffering in silence. That gave me the determination I needed to just keep going, even when things were tough.”

Accessible, personalized menopause care at your fingertips
Omena is the only digital health platform dedicated to menopause in France and one of the few in continental Europe. Subscribers to its mobile application receive personalized programs, community and direct access to certified health professionals through in-app chat, helping women better understand their symptoms and feel cared for throughout the journey.
To start, users enter information including their specific symptoms, whether they have any health conditions, their age and their preferences — for example, whether they are particularly interested in receiving guidance on nutrition, maintaining their libido, adapting their exercise routine, or supporting their emotional and mental well-being — then receive a recommended course of action. Omena currently has 15 different programs available, each designed by a panel of leading experts. Its medical content is led by France’s top authority on menopause, Dr. Brigitte Letombe of GEMVi — the multidisciplinary French scientific society focused on menopause.
As well as helping women on an individual level, Hayheon is determined that Omena will also contribute to the bigger picture of changing attitudes toward menopause on a societal level. To this end, it partners with businesses to provide corporate webinars that normalize discussing menopause at work and guide on how to support employees during this phase. It already counts Hermès, Capgemini and the state-owned rail operator SNCF as customers. In addition, it produces a podcast and runs live group sport sessions to foster a sense of community among its users.
“We aim to change the narrative, normalize the topic and ensure every woman can navigate this life stage with confidence, dignity and support.”

Measurable improvements in women’s health and well-being
Since launch, the platform has reached nearly 500,000 women and continues to grow rapidly, with 98% reporting they feel better supported and 89% experiencing symptom relief — meaning better sleep, improved physical health and renewed confidence.
With hundreds of thousands of users and five years worth of data about their experiences, Omena has optimized its program to get the best possible results. As it continues to grow its user base, including international expansion in 2026, the knowledge it acquires will increase further, shaping society’s understanding of effective menopause management.
“Our vision is to make menopause care as mainstream and accessible as pregnancy care.”
